To STEER or Not to STEER..Opening your flanks a very important piece of the puzzle!

Kori (4 month old pup)

Trying to get my students to understand the importance of opening their flanks... Perhaps this could be the reason they cannot steer on the fetch or the drive...The students find this as mindless drill that is not fun in fact very boring and repetitive, and they don't like pushing their dogs beyond their comfort levels. This is the part of herding that is not fun. The dogs that they are running, probably should have had more of this at a younger age, but the fact that they didn't doesn't mean we cannot do it now. Hopefully as time wanes on they will realize the importance of this exercise, and really learn from it...but it's going to take mental determination in order to achieve it. Just remember students DON'T GIVE UP!!!!
