Wrap up for ewe ..

Day 2 ...

A brisk chilly morning.. Staying dry so far! The sheep seem to be liking the weather although we are bundled up in the warmest of gear!

Soot ran out good and silent gathered the fetch. She was in good rhythm with the sheep so I figured why bother her!! You don't bring the sheep to your feet here you turn a post 50 yards in front of you! ( that has caused a few sheep to boil over into the creek). A ewe got crabby with soot at this turn but soot handled that with a quick attitude adjustment and off we went!

Rest of the course was smooth and finished with a no points off pen!!

Now it's raining.. We decided to pack it in for the day off to a steak dinner for us!!
Standings at the end of day 1 (83 dogs to post)
Amanda Milliken - dorey
Angela Akers - sage
Don Helsley - wizard
Jennifer Ewers - soot
Bryan white- scoop
Leslie pfardresher- patti
Jennifer Ewers -sly

We have started round 2 ... Yesterday set out lost  my sheep back to set out and sly picked them up there behind the hill...

Guess where she ran today.. Out and over the hills well... Behind the ridge on to the let out pen... Oh shit. You can't see so all you can do is assume they are somewhere amongst the outrun bliss searching and seeking the sheep ... Or 300 sheep.. Damn it sly!

Wh'Ewe ... Day one underway..

Drown the nerves it's time to show! My youngest open dog sly on the post first.. After a 30 min lunch break.. Sheep and have been even and good. The outrun posed a problem for some and a few crossover's that failed to continue toward the sheep were called. The 4 dogs that ran prior to me failed to get the sheep.. Thank god for my smart outrunner!

Set out lost my sheep ( in most trials that wouldn't matter) however this one is difficult but... I quickly became very religious..Smart natural border collie dug them out from wherever they had gone.. it's a good sight at 650 yards to see a packet of sheep and your dog!

A few standout runs today were Angela Akers and sage leading the field, my sly running 2nd.. Michael burks and sport running 3 rd. Right now the sheep seem to like a meeker dog..we shall see tomorrow what happens! So far smooth trial! Good set out, great course and sheep and hospitality from bill slaven and family is great!!!

Remember this is typed on an iPhone ... Not responsible for bad grammar.. Blame it on the beer!

More tomorrow we hope ...

Zamora...the fun gets underway!

Okay we are almost there. Why does 600 miles seem so far...

85 dogs going to the post In each go round!
I run sly 40 tomorrow and soot goes out Sat. morning. Sly's second go is Sat pm and soot finishes up for the open dogs in Sunday!

Ron runs Jesse Monday and I run suede!! Cell service is non- existent at the field but will try and update in the evening!

Can't figure out how to upload photos from iphone to blog so that may have to wait!!

Here's hoping for good sheep and good dogs and good handling.. Is that asking too much ???

What's all the gobble about?? Ham for Easter...how'd they know.....

Leo "the Lord of the barnyard"
Everybody needs one of these...... Just ask the border collies...they HATE him..and well..the feeling is mutual..he hates them too. You see he guards the sheep, and there is no border collie good enough to move his sheep. He sends the dogs fleeing in all directions as he flanks their every move to block them from the sheep...BUT that said..he is a character...just walk lightly and carry a big stick!!!

In the last 2 days we have acquired these..

Wild turkeys in the pasture
Just what we needed was 21 more turkeys!! You see with all the gobbling going on, "Leo" has called all these wild turkey's in. We have 8 toms in the pasture and 13 hens... Pretty soon we'll have 1 turkey for each sheep...you'll never see us again on the trial field because we won't be able to get the sheep out with a dog!!! 1 was bad enough..21 well that's just ridiculous!!

They are very very cute..pecking around and flaunting their freedom in front of our "Leo". We won't be surprised if he "flies the coop" in hopes to find that perfect mate!!!!!
